For Anabela da Cunha Vaz, writing isn’t merely an art—it’s a lifeline. A Portuguese author of romances and children’s tales, she believes that words have the power to heal, transform, and illuminate even the darkest corners of the human experience. Through her books, she weaves magic into meaning, offering her readers a world where imagination and emotion dance together.
A Life Shaped by Love, Resilience, and Words
Born in Portugal in 1971, Anabela’s love for storytelling began early. As a child, she was captivated by ballet, books, and the beauty of fairytales—worlds where grace and wonder lived side by side. Yet, as life often does, it tested her spirit far sooner than expected.
At just 18 years old, Anabela became a mother—a transformative experience that forever changed her destiny. While her heart was full of love, her dreams of writing had to be put on hold. Guided by duty and strength, she pursued a 21-year career in banking, dedicating herself to responsibility while her creative fire waited quietly within.
But some passions are too powerful to silence.
Rediscovering the Magic
It was during one of the world’s darkest moments—the 2020 pandemic—that Anabela’s creative voice reignited. Inspired by her beloved granddaughter Benedita, she returned to the blank page, rediscovering the enchantment she had always carried inside.
The result was the birth of “Benedita, a Fada” (2021)—a tender story celebrating innocence, kindness, and the timeless wonder of believing. The book touched hearts far beyond Portugal, marking the beginning of her new literary era.
Following its success, Anabela released “O Mundo Precisa de Fadas” (2022), a mission-driven story filled with hope, light, and values—a reminder that kindness and magic still have a place in our world. Her next work, “O Que Desejas Ser Depois da Meia-Noite?” (2023), explored themes of identity and self-discovery through seven emotional stories. In 2024, she gifted readers with “Maria do Mar, a Sereia que Sonhava Voar”, a poetic journey blending sea, sky, and the eternal quest for freedom.
Her first novel, “Neblina” (2006), had already revealed her ability to blend realism with emotion—a talent that would later define her voice as a writer.

Writing with Soul
What sets Anabela Vaz apart is her authenticity. Her words don’t just tell stories—they touch souls. Each book is written with essence, empathy, and heart, reflecting her belief that literature should comfort, awaken, and transform.
She describes her writing as “the pair of wings that carry me toward my dreams.”
Her readers often describe her books as “emotional journeys”—tales that remind them to believe in love, hope, and magic again.
A Mission of Meaning
Today, Anabela lives her lifelong dream—writing full-time and sharing her stories with the world. Her mission is simple yet profound: to inspire hearts, awaken imagination, and prove that fairytales still exist where love is found.
Her work stands as a tribute to all women who have faced life’s storms with grace—those who turned fragility into strength and pain into poetry.
For Anabela da Cunha Vaz, every story is a mirror of resilience, every word a spark of hope. And when asked if she still believes in fairytales, her answer is unwavering:
“Yes. Wherever there is love, there will always be a fairytale.”
