After 20-plus years of helping others shine, the vocalist, producer, and creative director introduces her own artistry, and a mission to bridge generations through music.
For more than two decades, Atiya Rafiah El-Amin has worked in the arts as a vocalist, songwriter, music producer, vocal producer, creative director, educator, and mentor, often on the side of the stage where the audience never looks. This October, she steps forward under her artist name, Rafiah Sol, with the debut of her first EP, Love Letters.
“Rafiah Sol isn’t the beginning of my story,” she says of the new chapter. “She’s the evolution of it.”
A Lifetime in Music
Rafiah Sol grew up in New Jersey, surrounded by music, faith, family, and community. By age 13 she was performing and taking part in community-based arts through Vessels of Praise, experiences that showed her that music could tell stories, connect people, and leave something meaningful behind.
She went on to study the arts at Rider University and musical theater at AMDA in Los Angeles. Her career has since taken her to stages in the United States and abroad, and she has spent years helping other artists and creatives develop their voices and ideas. Now she is bringing that experience to her own work.
Love Letters: Three Versions of One Artist
Love Letters is a deeply personal project that explores love through three versions of the artist: who she was, who she is, and who she is becoming. Blending R&B and pop with rich vocal production, visual storytelling, and a touch of cosmic energy, the EP reflects the different eras and dimensions of her life. Her concept of three personas shapes the music, the visuals, and the creative direction.
Her voice reflects that range. She can be powerful and belty, melodic and sweet, or sensual, with jazz tones and influences, so that there are, in her words, “almost different voices within my voice.”
Because she writes, produces, vocal produces, and creatively directs her own work, she approaches each song as a complete experience: the story, the sound, the emotion, and the visual world around it.
Bridging Generations
At the heart of Rafiah Sol’s mission is connection across generations. She draws inspiration from legendary artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Prince, who made music feel like a full experience in which vocals, storytelling, performance, visuals, fashion, and message all mattered.
“I’m not trying to recreate the legends who came before me,” she explains. Instead, she aims to honor what they gave us, carry that spirit forward, and add her own voice, so that longtime fans can hear something familiar while younger listeners find something fresh that belongs to right now.
Her audience is anyone navigating love, self-discovery, change, dreams, heartbreak, healing, and becoming. Her hope is that listeners leave with joy, inspiration, confidence, a moment of healing, or permission to dance. She hopes to ignite “a flame of positive change through music, love, joy, and connection.”
Contribution Over Competition
Rafiah Sol also challenges the way the industry talks about artists. She does not see art as a competition. To her, music is an offering, and each artist expresses something that no one else can offer from the same life, voice, spirit, or perspective.
“I don’t really ask, ‘Who is my competition?'” she says. “I ask, ‘What is my contribution?'” She hopes audiences will return to simply experiencing art, letting themselves be moved and celebrating what makes each artist unique without needing anyone else to lose.
More Than an EP: 3ATIYA ENTERPRISES
Love Letters is the first release in a broader creative chapter. Through 3ATIYA ENTERPRISES, the company she founded and leads as CEO, Rafiah Sol is developing documentary projects, books, live experiences, and educational programming. The company is built on three pillars, Music, Media, and Mentorship, and on one mission: Enrich. Educate. Entertain.
