Todd Barrow Hits Pause with “Sit Back and Breathe”

A Texas songwriter raised on Cash, Elvis and the Eagles uses his latest single to make a case for taking a moment.

Most songs want something from you. Dance, sing along, turn it up. “Sit Back and Breathe,” the new single from Texas singer-songwriter Todd Barrow, asks for less. It wants you to stop for three and a half minutes and take stock.

Released June 13, 2026, the song is about perspective: easing off, paying attention to the present and remembering what matters when life keeps demanding more.

A Texas Sound With Deep Roots

Barrow comes from a state where country, blues and do-it-yourself songwriting share the same stages. He grew up on the greats, and counts Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Ronnie Milsap, Alabama and the Eagles among his inspirations.

The mix shows. His music moves between traditional country, rock and roll, blues and Americana without settling into any one of them. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, piano, mandolin, harmonica and drums, which gives him a full picture of a song before anyone else enters the room.

The Chance Meeting That Changed Everything

Barrow’s career began with a lucky break. While working at Cook Children’s Medical Center, he was there the day an American Idol contestant was scheduled to perform for patients and the audio technician was nowhere to be found. When someone called out, “Can anybody here run sound?”, Barrow answered.

As he set up the live rig, Texas Music Hall of Fame honoree Sonny Burgess walked in, and the two started talking. Burgess told him about his work with Charley Pride and Randy Travis, and asked whether Barrow could lend his technical skills to a recording studio then in development, sponsored by Garth Brooks and Troy Aikman. A coffee meeting to review the blueprints turned into weekly coffees about music, and Burgess eventually became Barrow’s mentor.

Country music hands its knowledge down in person, and Barrow had a teacher. His career has since brought him alongside John Schneider, Paul Overstreet, Lulu Roman and Billy Joe Shaver.

Recognition and Reach

Barrow’s accolades include a PRSA Award of Excellence and an Akademia Award for Best Country Album. He has been profiled in Alternative Roots Magazine, American Pride Magazine and AVA Radio, and was recently featured in Red Silk Carpet magazine. On television, he has appeared on Good Morning Texas with Jerry Matheny and on PBS’s Texas Music Café, and he has stepped in front of the camera as an actor as well. In the studio and on stage, he has worked with CMA musicians from Miranda Lambert’s band and with Fort Worth Producer of the Year Bart Rose.

A Change of Pace

Barrow’s recent singles have mostly been about momentum. “Rockin in the City” (2024) leaned into country-rock. “Aint Lookin Back Now” (April 2025) kept its eyes forward, and “Road Warrior (Street Machine)” closed out that year with rock-and-roll drive.

“Sit Back and Breathe” breaks the pattern on purpose. The storytelling is still there, as it always is with Barrow, but the tempo of the message has changed. After songs about going somewhere, this one is about being where you are.

That is what makes it worth a listen. Independent artists are often told to pick a lane and stay in it. Barrow keeps widening his, and this single adds a calmer, more thoughtful side to a catalog built on energy. What stands out most in his music is his heart, and here it gets room to breathe.
